This interview was received back on the 18th of June 2001.
What was it like being a part of Spontaneous Insanity for the WA Fringe?
Well I was only part of one thing in the whole Fringe but that was enough 'cause it was something I had never done before. Theatre Sports. It was a big challenge but alot of fun, especially working with the "Cops on Heat" Guys.
What went through your mind when you got a gaping wound on your head while on stage?
I didn't realise I was bleeding until I put my hand to my forehead so at first I was quite shocked but for me, the show must always go on so I tried my best to use it as part of the act and then quickly left to get stitched up.
Describe your best ever performance
My best ever performance (only because my memory is so bad) was at last years Pemberton Festival when I was on before one of the Eastern States guys (I know him but I've forgotten his name). I just went on stage and did the best I'd ever done and the crowd went off. Afterwards I went back stage and the eastern states guy told me I should be over east. That was great.
Why do you like being a comedian?
Freedom of expression to say stuff that I would normally get funny looks from people if I said them one on one.
Describe the Perth comedy scene, in your opinion, in 25 words or less.
Comedy Scene In Perth - "Great talent, Easy audiences, too small!!!"
Did working with the guys from Cops on Heat teach you anything?
The Cops on Heat guys taught me that it takes a huge amount of effort to make Theatre Sports look so effortless.
What's the best compliment you've ever received?
Anytime the whole audience applaudes.
How about the strangest?
Can't think of any.
If you were trapped on Ayers rock, surrounded by police, what would you be thinking?
"What the fuck am I doing on Ayers Rock?"
What's your favourite venue in Perth?
The old "Pockets" but now I think Worzels room has a nice feel about it.
What's the difference between being a doctor and being a comedian?
For a start, I'm not a doctor.....that's an insult!! Not much really, I use my comedy in work and my work in comedy. The biggest difference is that I don't get to use the "F" word at work (unless I'm talking about a doctor).
What's your favourite song to perform?
The Hungry Jacks Song.
How has pretending to be a dog changed your life?
Greater respect for our four legged friends.
Is there anything else you'd like to say?
Sorry for taking so long and Thanks.
