Mike Loder interview

This interview was received back on the 13th of September 2000. It was done via e-mail.

What is it like to be one of the writers for BackBerner?

A great creative experience. the drive to be topical without repeating one's self is a great buzz.

What is the most embarrassing thing you've done?

totally misjudged a person to their face

When did you decide that you wanted to be a comedian?

It was never a conscious decision, it kinda happened by default

How did you feel when Jean Kittson kept hitting you with more car words last year?

A lovely moment of comedy which she won fair and square. Someone's got to be the fall guy.

What is it like, for you, to be a guest on Good News Week?

A chance to exercise a few impro skills, v. fun

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Scotland. I often feel my celtic heritage calling to me, and I'm happiest in a kilt.

What is the most important thing in the world?

A knowledge of what isn't really that important

How did you get into comedy?

I started in the early eighties, doing theatre and cabaret style comedy. Laughter is just something that's always attracted to me. The psychology behind that will have to wait for my unauthorised biography.

What possesses you to keep your goatee?

A sense of self, and a callous disregard for fashion

Where has been your best ever performance?

I've had a few I've really enjoyed, but recently the Snug Harbour closing gig.

What do you look for when considering new people to meet and talk to?

Pretty much if they have a pulse, I'm happy to talk.

Is there anything else you want to do with your life or are you completely satisfied with it?

I defy any one with an ounce of passion for creativity to be truly satisfied. Keep exploring. the next chapter of the adventure, whatever that may be.

Whats the most obscure thing someones ever said to you?

"Steven Biko - best goalkeeper England ever had"

When's the last time you whipped your dipstick out?

I'm going to assume that this is a metaphor for something, so I guess the answer is the last time I needed to check my metaphorical oil.

What's your opinion of powdered cordial?

It helps if you add water.

If you could chose between eggs on toast with pickles - onions - mayo and tomato sauce or ice cream with peanut butter and vegemite - which would be more suited to your tastes?

Frankly, neither.

Is there anything else you'd like to say?

Always.
